Sunday Small Groups (September 13)

Just like our bodies thirst for water, our souls thirst for God. In the narrative of the Woman at the Well, Jesus offers Himself as the Living Water. Although the water she draws from the well will leave her thirsting again, receiving the Living Water will satisfy her soul, and she will not thirst again. Although it would have been strange for a Jewish rabbi to interact with a Samaritan woman, Jesus displays God’s love for all people (even those that the religious leaders of the day had ostracized).

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:  John 1:1-42

TALK ABOUT IT:
  • If you could rewrite the story of the Woman at the Well in a modern context, how would you do it?
  • What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Living Water?
  • Jesus shared the Gospel with a Samaritan Woman, who would have been looked down upon by many Jews of that time. Is there anyone that you have previously looked down upon that you can treat with the same love that Jesus showed the Samaritan Woman?

Wednesday Midweek (September 2)

It’s easy to say you’re a Christian, but what really matters is whether your life backs it up or not. The phrases “talk is cheap” or “walk the talk” have some wisdom to them. In Luke 6, we see that a good tree produces good fruit, and in the same way, authentic faith produces actions that reflect Jesus. The fruit in our lives isn’t about performing or trying to look perfect (image management); it’s about allowing God to transform our hearts from the inside out. When that happens, our actions naturally begin to align with our faith.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:  Luke 6:43-45; Philippians 1:27

TALK ABOUT IT:
  • If someone followed you around for a week, what would your actions point to?
  • How can I pray for you in this area?
